Comparative form of adjectives
  • Use

We use comparative form plus than to compare two people ,things,animals,places,etc.We usually use than with comparative forms.We can also use much with comparative adjectives.

The blue bag is smaller than the red one.

shakira is more famous than Rita Indiana

He is much taller than his sister.

  • Form
  • with adjectives of one or two syllables(i.e...,short adjectives) we add er to the positive form to form the comparative. tall -- taller, short -- shorter
  • with adjectives of more than two syllables (i..e.,longer adjectives)we add more to the positive form to form the comparative.

Beautiful-more beautiful

Careful-more careful

  • With some adjectives such as friendly , etc. we add er or more .Friendlier or more friendly.

  • With two-sylladles adjectives ending in -y ,we drop the -y and add -ier

Happy- happier ,noisy - noisier

  • With one-syllable adjectives ending in a vowel plus a consonant we double the consonant and add- er big -bigger ,hot -hotter ,thin -thinner
